I started working on this furniture in 2007 with the intention of exploring CNC laser, router and water-jet cutting and offering a wide colour range using laminates and two-part paints. The appeal of cutting from an electronic file was that ultimately the file could be transported rather than the piece for furniture. Workshops in other centres could receive files along with instructions to cut, assemble and deliver locally.
The reality was that the cutting (whether CNC or hand router and template) was the easy part. Each piece still required a reasonable amount of time to finish and assemble. The size and weight became a factor when delivering, pushing the final cost up, even locally.
